CDC Warns of Increase in Dengue Viral Infections

The agency sends an alert to healthcare providers after recording a doubled rate of cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an alert to healthcare providers about an ongoing spike in dengue virus infections. The dengue virus is transmitted through mosquito bites and causes symptoms such as fever, headaches, vomiting, and, in extreme cases, death due to severe hemorrhagic fever.

“Dengue cases resurged globally after the COVID-19 pandemic,” the CDC stated in the alert. “In 2023, more than 4.6 million cases and 4000 deaths were reported in the Americas region. As of June 24, 2024, more than 9.7 million dengue cases have been reported in the Americas, twice as many as in all of 2023 (4.6 million cases).”

The CDC said higher temperatures have expanded mosquito range and survivability. The agency recommended that Americans take extra precautions to repel mosquitos while traveling to tropical and subtropical regions, where mosquitos are more prevalent.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Cohen to be led by the Lord as she heads the CDC.
  • For wisdom for CDC officials as they review and publish alerts and issue public health guidance.
